A Proper Guide to Outdoor Furniture That Actually Lasts in Dubai
We have lived in Dubai long enough to know that the weather here is a bit of a double-edged sword. For six months of the year, it is absolutely glorious and you want to be outside every evening. But for the other half, the climate is brutal on anything you leave in the garden.
We spend a lot of time chatting with families who have learned this the hard way. They bought a lovely looking set that fell to pieces after one fierce summer. The heat, the August humidity, and that fine dust that gets everywhere can ruin standard furniture very quickly. If the kit isn’t built specifically for this environment, you will be replacing it far sooner than you expect.
We wanted to put together a straightforward guide on what actually works here. This is based on what we see holding up in real gardens and terraces across the city.
Aluminium is the best bet for an easy life
If you don't want the hassle of constant maintenance, aluminium is usually the way to go. It is incredibly reliable because it doesn’t rust, it doesn’t warp, and it handles the direct sun without complaining. A lot of our clients choose it because it keeps that smart, modern look without needing to be babysitted. Usually, a quick wipe down is all it needs to look fresh.
We make sure to use powder coated frames for all our aluminium ranges. This isn't just for aesthetics. The coating stops the metal from getting dangerously hot and keeps the colour from fading. Even on days when the patio tiles are hot enough to cook on, the furniture stays manageable.
Teak for when you want a bit of character
There is a warmth to wood that metal just cannot match. Good quality teak wears the Dubai climate surprisingly well. We use Grade A teak because it is full of natural oils that stop it from drying out or cracking in the heat. It looks softer than metal and tends to settle into a garden design really naturally.
Looking after it is simple enough. We just wash it with mild soap every now and then. You can use a teak protector if you want to keep that golden colour, or you can let it silver naturally. Either way, decent teak lasts here and often looks better after it has weathered a season or two.
Don't get caught out by the cushions
Cushions are the thing most people underestimate. If the fabric isn't up to scratch, the sun will bleach it and the humidity will make it smell musty. That is why we stick to Sunproof fabric for the Maze collection. It holds its colour, dries quickly if it gets splashed, and it doesn't feel plastic or synthetic.
Upkeep is minimal. brushing the dust off and giving the covers a gentle wash occasionally is usually more than enough.
Tables that can handle family life
Outdoor dining tables have to put up with a lot. Hot serving dishes, coffee rings, kids drawing, and friends spilling drinks. In our experience, stone, ceramic, and GRC tops cope better than anything else. They don’t fade and they are very hard to scratch.
A soft cloth and mild soap keeps them looking decent. We see a lot of people mixing stone tables with either aluminium or teak chairs to get a nice balance between textures.
Modular seating sorts out awkward spaces
A lot of Dubai villas have long terraces or odd corners near the pool that don't suit a standard sofa. Modular seating is brilliant for that. You can move things around when you have people over or pull pieces apart when you want more space. We often see families changing their layout a few times a year depending on how they are using the garden.
What actually survives here
If you want furniture that stands the test of time, we reckon you should look for:
-
Aluminium frames or proper Grade A teak
-
High performance outdoor cushions
-
Stone or ceramic table tops
When you start with those three, you avoid most of the common headaches.
Why families come to Maze Outdoor
Everything we make is built specifically for climates like this. The materials and the finishes are all chosen because they actually work here in the Middle East. People often tell us they appreciate being able to walk into the showroom and see the furniture in the flesh. It is much easier to imagine it at home when you can sit on it properly and feel the quality.
We also offer a ten year UV warranty on many of our ranges because we are confident in them. Our team isn't here to pressure you. We just enjoy chatting through the options and helping you find something that suits how you live.
Making the most of the winter
The outdoor space is easily the best part of living here when the temperatures drop. That first run of cool evenings in November always gets everyone back outside. Whether it is breakfast on the terrace or friends staying late after dinner, the furniture should feel as comfortable as what you have indoors.
That is exactly what we build Maze Outdoor furniture to do. We want to provide comfortable pieces that can handle the heat and still look inviting years down the line.
